Book Drive

I know this is a little out-of-scope for the Tech Talk blog, but I thought I’d highjack this space to advertise ASU Libraries’ book drive to help rebuild school libraries that were devastated by the recent earthquakes in China’s Sichuan Province.

From the official announcement:

Donated materials, English language books, CDs, and DVDs in literature, history, science, and the arts, must be in good condition and appropriate for children in grades 7 through 12.
Materials/Boxes should be marked “Rebuilding School Libraries, Sichuan Earthquake” and can be brought to any of the following ASU Libraries: Hayden Library, Noble Science and Engineering Library, and Music Library, on the Tempe campus, the Library at the Downtown Phoenix campus, the Library at the Polytechnic campus, and Fletcher Library at the West campus. Donations will be accepted from July 21 through August 15, 2008. Those needing more information or assistance with their donation may call 480-965-3417.

These particular donations will be sent to Juyuan Middle School in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan. That school, now operating in tents, lost 278 students and six teachers in the quake.   English-language books with lots of pictures and very clear text are in particular demand.  ASU is trying to collect at least 500 books to send – please help us reach our goal!
