Wanted: TechTalk Topics

It’s hard to believe that we have had six meetings already. So far, we’ve covered technologies such as RSS, wikis, podcasts, gaming, blogs and social networking sites. Mary Mitchell of the Phoenix Public Library is going to facilitate our next meeting; the topic will be “Innovative OPACs.” Eric Zaller of the Scottsdale Public Library will talk about planning for IT infrastructure in the fall. Roseline Williams of the Scottsdale Community College Library would like to see a discussion on technology competencies and training, probably in December.

So, here is our question for you — What other technology topics are you are interested in for discussion in TechTalk? They can be new topics we have not yet explored or more in-depth discussions of the topics we have covered before.

To get the discussion going, I am tossing out a couple of ideas here and please feel free to add your own:

Online programming –We have learned about the technologies themselves, so how about some practical applications, as well as best practices, of the technologies we learned?

Information technology tools and gadgets you can’t live without — Okay, maybe you can live without them but I bet you will miss those tools if they are not available. Care to show us that cool cell phone you have and what you do with it? Believe it or not, we can learn a lot about our users just by observing those around us.

Now… your turn! What is your idea or ideas?

One Response to “Wanted: TechTalk Topics”

  1. Roseline,

How about having everyone bring 1 or 2 of their favorite 2.0 websites to a meeting? We would be willing to host it in Peoria and try and set it up in our computer activity lab so that everyone could log onto the sites and try them out if they’d like. There are so many sites out there, I can’t be the only one to not have seen them all. If this looks like something everyone would like to do, we would need a list of everyone’s sites a week or so before the meeting so we could make sure our filters don’t block any of the sites. Thanks!
